Kathryn 'Kitty' Holcomb, who rose to prominence in the 1970s as Laura Macahan in the hit miniseries "How the West Was Won," recently made a rare public appearance. The 74-year-old actress was spotted shopping for groceries in Los Angeles, dressed casually in a charcoal top, jeans, trainers, and dark sunglasses. A small fly tattoo was visible on her forearm during the outing.
Holcomb starred in "How the West Was Won" from 1976 to 1979, an ABC series that followed the Macahan family's journey west. The show, which also featured James Arness and Eva Marie Saint, was particularly popular internationally, developing a significant cult following in Europe. Holcomb also appeared in "The Macahans," a 1976 TV movie that preceded the series.
During her time on "How the West Was Won," Holcomb met Bruce Boxleitner, who played her brother Luke Macahan. They married in 1977 and had two sons, Sam and Lee Boxleitner, before divorcing in 1987.
After "How the West Was Won," Holcomb's career continued with a role in the 1980 series "Skag." Despite critical acclaim for the show's depiction of working-class life, it was canceled after one season. She also made guest appearances on "The New Mike Hammer" and "Simon & Simon" in the late 1980s. Her final screen credit was a voice role in the 1991 animated film "Rock-A-Doodle."
In 1992, Holcomb married British actor-writer Ian Ogilvy. She has since lived a private life away from the public eye.
