Boots has unveiled its Christmas advertising campaign, which eschews traditional emotional narratives in favor of a humorous portrayal of women becoming intensely possessive of their gifts. The British health and beauty retailer's 60-second festive advert highlights the prolonged excitement and utility of well-chosen presents.
The campaign, titled "For Gifts They’ll Really Love," depicts four women who develop strong attachments to their holiday gifts. Rather than simply enjoying their presents on Christmas Day, the items become integral parts of their daily lives throughout the year. One woman is shown continuously wearing her LED Light Therapy Mask, even while taking out the bins or posing for family photos. Another is so devoted to her hair styler that she becomes territorial, even hissing at a bride who attempts to use it while they are both getting ready for a wedding.
Directed by Phoebe Arstein, the advertisement aims to be a "playful exaggeration of a familiar truth," emphasizing that the best gifts extend their value far beyond the holiday season and become cherished everyday essentials. The film is set to a contemporary rendition of the carol ‘Shepherd of the Bells’.
Featured gifts in the advert include the Shark Cryoglow LED Face Mask, Dyson Airwrap, Jo Malone London English Pear & Freesia fragrance, No7 Future Renew Collection, YSL Rouge Pur Couture, and Oral B io9 Electric Toothbrush. The advert, filmed in the UK, premiered on Boots' digital media channels on November 4.
Charlotte Lock, Chief Marketing Officer at Boots, stated that the company aims to "redefine what people expect from Boots at Christmas" and become a go-to destination for desired gifts. "The best gifting is about really knowing someone," Lock said. "When we get it right, the excitement lasts far beyond Christmas morning – it becomes the gift they use constantly, talk about and wonder how they ever lived without."
