An Idaho deer hunter recently reported what he believes to be an encounter with Bigfoot in the remote mountains near St. Maries. The hunter described hearing loud knocking on a tree, a deep voice speaking what sounded like gibberish, and an overpowering smell of death, according to a report filed with the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization (BFRO).
The incident occurred on a Tuesday evening in late October around 5 p.m. while the hunter was walking along a trail. He first heard the knocking noises emanating from a creek bed approximately 200 to 300 yards away. The sounds persisted for five to ten minutes.
Immediately following the knocking, the hunter detected a powerful smell described as "like death." He searched the area for a dead animal but found no evidence. "I could not even find a single sign of a dead animal near me," the hunter stated. He also reported hearing a brief, deep voice, but could not discern any words, characterizing it as "gibberish."
The hunter noted the absence of human footprints or any other signs of people in the vicinity, stating that his truck was the only vehicle he saw on the road leading to the area all day. He described himself as an experienced outdoorsman familiar with the woods and the signs of deceased animals, adding that he had no prior similar encounters.
