Kim Kardashian recently ignited controversy after wearing a historic piece of jewelry once owned by screen legend Elizabeth Taylor. The reality star and actress tried on Taylor's multimillion-dollar emerald and diamond Bulgari necklace during a visit to a Bulgari store in Rome.

A store employee handled the renowned necklace, a gift from Taylor's ex-husband Richard Burton, with white gloves, underscoring its preciousness. Kardashian shared photos of the occasion on social media, describing the experience as "special."

However, the post drew criticism from some social media users who invoked a past controversy involving Kardashian wearing Marilyn Monroe's dress to the Met Gala. Comments included "Elizabeth Taylor just rolled over in her grave" and "Is she going to ruin that like she ruined the Marilyn Monroe dress?"

Kardashian has previously acknowledged her admiration for Taylor and her jewelry collection. She revealed that she had a phone conversation with Taylor about the necklace before the icon's death in 2011. Kardashian also recounted being able to see Taylor's jewelry in her safe shortly after her passing.

"My love for Elizabeth Taylor runs deep," Kardashian captioned her Instagram post. "She is someone I have respected and loved for so many years and being able to try her jewels on was special for me." She thanked luxury law and Bulgari for facilitating the experience.

Despite the criticism, some users expressed admiration for the look, with one commenting, "I will say, that looks beautiful on her!" The Daily Mail has reached out to a representative for Kardashian for comment.
