Jon Gosselin has shared a heartbreaking admission about his relationship with his eldest daughters, twins Madelyn and Cara, stating he likely wouldn't recognize them if he encountered them.
During an appearance on the "Legally Goff Podcast," Gosselin, 49, referred to the 26-year-old twins as "strangers" and expressed sadness over not having spoken to them in years. He claimed that his ex-wife, Kate Gosselin, alienated him from their lives when they were 13, leading to a prolonged silence.
"Alienation [as in] silence. I’ve never heard their voice. One day, I was an active every day parent … and I was just cut out of their lives," Gosselin said. He added that he wishes for any form of communication, even a text message, to know they are still in his life. "Walking around for 13 years not knowing has pretty much eaten my soul away," he stated.
Gosselin, who now works as a DJ, described the estrangement as "upsetting" and "gut-wrenching," admitting he has had nightmares about what his daughters might believe about him. He noted that he has missed significant milestones, including graduations and proms, and has no knowledge of their current lives, such as whether they have partners or their preferences.
"I wouldn’t be able to pick them out in the street. I have pictures of them, but I still wouldn’t be able to pick them out on the street. That’s how much I haven’t seen them," he explained.
In addition to the twins, Gosselin is also estranged from four of his 22-year-old sextuplets: Leah, Alexis, Aaden, and Joel. He currently maintains contact with Collin and Hannah.
Gosselin speculated that his adult children might believe a narrative portrayed by their mother and the media, suggesting they think he is a "sh-tbag" who doesn't want to see them. He believes Kate Gosselin may have told the children that they did not want to see him, leading them to believe her.
"I don’t blame them," he said, "claiming his kids "live in fear."
Jon and Kate Gosselin divorced in 2009, with Kate initially granted primary physical custody of all eight children. By 2018, Jon had obtained custody of Hannah and Collin. Collin has since spoken out about his experiences, accusing his mother of abuse in a memoir and issuing pleas to his siblings.
Jon Gosselin has also made public appeals to his children, expressing his love and hoping they will reach out. He encouraged them to read Collin's book, believing it would offer explanations for their family's situation.
