The Baltimore Ravens are finalizing a trade to acquire quarterback Jacoby Brissett from the Arizona Cardinals, according to multiple reports. This move addresses a critical shortage at the position, with both starting quarterback Lamar Jackson and backup Tyler Huntley currently injured.
Brissett, who entered the league in 2016, will join his eighth NFL team. He was recently demoted to third-string quarterback for the Cardinals after being benched in favor of Gardner Minshew. In eight starts this season for Arizona, Brissett has completed 193 of 305 passes for 1,719 yards, with 10 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He also has 87 rushing yards and a touchdown on the ground.
The Ravens' quarterback situation deteriorated rapidly in Week 8. Jackson, after returning from a three-week absence, left the game against the Buffalo Bills after just one play due to a thumb injury and was placed on injured reserve. He may require season-ending surgery. Huntley, who stepped in for Jackson, is reportedly out for the remainder of the season with a turf-toe injury.
This leaves third-stringer Joe Fagnano as the presumptive starter for the Ravens' upcoming Thursday Night Football matchup against the Jaguars, pending Brissett's arrival. The Ravens currently hold a 4-4 record and are last in the AFC North.
The trade for Brissett is not expected to be completed in time for him to play in the Week 9 game.
