The Philadelphia Eagles are making a quarterback change, benching Tanner McKee in favor of Joe Milton, according to ESPN. This decision follows a three-game losing streak with McKee under center, with the Eagles having lost all three contests since Jalen Hurts was ruled out for the season.
The switch is particularly surprising as head coach Nick Sirianni had publicly supported McKee earlier in the week, stating on Monday, "Tanner’s our guy. We’re not making any changes there." Sirianni emphasized the team's commitment to finding solutions for their current six-game losing skid, accepting responsibility on behalf of the coaching staff.
Milton was signed by the Eagles off the Dallas Cowboys' practice squad on October 16. Sirianni had previously praised Milton's work ethic, noting his dedication and progress in learning the team's offensive plays.
Milton began his NFL career with the New England Patriots after being a sixth-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. He spent one season with the Patriots before joining the Cowboys, where he served as Dak Prescott's backup in 2025. In five career games, Milton has completed 37 of 53 passes for 424 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. His only full-game start came in 2024 with the Patriots, where he completed 22 of 29 passes for 241 yards, one passing touchdown, and one rushing touchdown against the Buffalo Bills.
Milton becomes the fourth quarterback to attempt a pass for the Eagles this season, joining Jalen Hurts, Tanner McKee, and Andy Dalton. Dalton was released after throwing one pass, which resulted in an interception during a loss to the Chicago Bears.
The Eagles, currently 2-6 on the season, will look to Milton to spark their offense when they face the New York Giants (4-2-1) on Sunday.
