The Detroit Lions have shared that "preliminary indications are positive" regarding the condition of linebacker Jack Campbell, who was hospitalized after suffering a neck injury during Sunday's game against the Minnesota Vikings. However, the team stated that "out of respect for Jack and his family we will not share further information at this time," leaving details about his mobility, specifically in his extremities, unclear.
This is the third update from the Lions since Campbell was removed from the field on a stretcher and cart. The initial report indicated he was being evaluated for a neck injury, followed by an overnight hospitalization for "continued evaluation and monitoring."
Campbell sustained the injury in the second half of the game while making a tackle. He appeared to make contact with his facemask after falling to his knees, subsequently collapsing and lying motionless. While he did not require assistance with breathing, the visual of the play raised immediate concerns, especially given the Lions' history with severe neck and spinal cord injuries to players like Mike Utley and Reggie Brown.
