Robinson Canó Jr., son of former MLB star Robinson Canó, has agreed to a $1 million contract with the Miami Marlins. The 16-year-old is slated to join the franchise's 2028 international signing class, according to a report from The Post's Jon Heyman.
Canó Jr. reposted social media content on Monday that showed him celebrating the agreement with friends and family. One post, translated from Spanish, read "Congratulations to the best, as always." He also appeared to be signing his contract in one of the shared images.
His father, the elder Robinson Canó, made his MLB debut with the New York Yankees in 2005. He spent nine seasons in the Bronx, earning five All-Star selections and five Silver Slugger awards, and was part of the Yankees' 2009 World Series championship team. His 17-year career also included stints with the Seattle Mariners, New York Mets, San Diego Padres, and Atlanta Braves, though it was also marked by two suspensions for performance-enhancing drugs.
In 2018, while with the Mariners, Canó received an 80-game ban for testing positive for furosemide. He later received a full-season suspension in 2020 with the Mets. Unsigned after the 2022 season, the elder Canó played internationally.
This past year, Canó Jr. played in the Mexican League for the Diablos Rojos del México, batting .291 with 15 home runs and 72 RBIs. The Marlins are scheduled to begin their spring training schedule on February 19 against the Mets and Cardinals.
