Prince Harry Considers Documentary on Princess Diana for 30th Anniversary

Prince Harry is reportedly in talks to produce a documentary about his mother, Princess Diana, to commemorate the 30th anniversary of her death next year. The Duke of Sussex is said to have approached several of Diana's friends and relatives, including her brother Earl Spencer, about participating in the potential project.

While no official confirmation has been made, sources indicate that Harry is exploring various ways to honor Diana's legacy around the anniversary in August 2027. The documentary could be produced under Archewell Productions, Harry and Meghan's company, which has an existing deal with Netflix for film and television projects.

This potential project emerges at a sensitive time for the Royal Family, coinciding with the release of Earl Spencer's memoir, "Swan Song: Diana, My Sister." The book offers personal recollections of his sister and her life within the monarchy. Earl Spencer has stated his intention to share his own account rather than simply be an interviewee in other productions.

Earl Spencer's memoir includes recollections of Prince Charles's alleged reaction to Diana's death, stating that Charles said, "rest assured, we'll forget her soon enough." The Royal Family's official response to these claims noted that "the pain of fraternal grief can cloud reason, affect judgment and colour memory." The memoir also details Earl Spencer's disagreement with the decision for his young nephews, Prince William and Prince Harry, to walk behind their mother's coffin at her funeral.

The timing of Harry's potential documentary could place him at the center of renewed public attention on Diana, similar to the period leading up to the 20th anniversary of her death. In 2017, Prince Harry and his brother Prince William collaborated on the BBC documentary "Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy." However, their relationship has since become estranged, making a repeat collaboration unlikely.

Prince Harry's reported consideration of the documentary comes as he attends public events, including the WellChild Awards. He recently made his third public appearance since returning to Britain, attending the awards ceremony in London. At the event, which honors children with complex medical needs, Harry spoke about the dedication of the families and caregivers.
