Cher's representative has stated that the singer "adores" Michael Douglas, following the actor's recent comments suggesting Glenn Close was more deserving of the best actress Oscar Cher won in 1988 for "Moonstruck." Douglas made the remarks during an appearance on "The Graham Norton Show."

The discussion arose after Close joked about potentially receiving an honorary Academy Award due to a sense of guilt among members, referencing her eight competitive Oscar nominations without a win. Douglas, who co-starred with Close in "Fatal Attraction," stated that her performance in that film should have earned her the award over Cher's role in "Moonstruck."

Douglas recalled Close receiving her fourth Oscar nomination for "Fatal Attraction," while Cher took home the best actress trophy. The host, Graham Norton, humorously noted Cher's Oscar win and suggested she "put some grey in her hair" for the role. Cher, whose full name is Cherilyn Sarkisian, previously received a best supporting actress nomination for "Silkwood" in 1983. She portrayed Loretta Castorini in "Moonstruck," a Brooklyn widow who falls for the younger brother of her fiancé. The film also starred Nicolas Cage and Danny Aiello. "Fatal Attraction" received six Oscar nominations, including best picture, but did not win any competitive awards.

Douglas himself won the best actor Oscar in 1988 for his role as Gordon Gekko in "Wall Street." Close is slated to receive an honorary Oscar at the Governors Awards in November.
