A man in the United Kingdom is accused of murdering his roommate and friend, dismembering her body, and storing it in a freezer for three years alongside her five guinea pigs, which he allegedly drowned. Prosecutors claim George Gordon, 65, killed Delia McInerney, 62, in April 2023 after learning she planned to move permanently to Portugal.
According to reports citing prosecutors, Gordon is also accused of draining McInerney’s bank accounts and opening credit cards in her name, accumulating approximately £22,000 (nearly $30,000 USD) in debt. He allegedly continued to impersonate her via messages and emails to friends and family for 18 months to conceal the crime.
McInerney’s dismembered remains were discovered in a chest freezer in Gordon's flat on January 8 of this year, the prosecution stated at the start of his trial in Liverpool Crown Court. Prosecutors allege that in the weeks leading up to the killing, Gordon purchased a sledgehammer, a cordless handsaw, a copy of “Gray’s Anatomy,” and drugs.
Following the alleged murder, Gordon reportedly ordered a chest freezer online to store McInerney's remains. When police searched his apartment on January 8, the accused killer allegedly stated, “She’s in the freezer.”
Prosecutors suggest Gordon's motives included financial gain and anger over McInerney’s planned departure. The two had been friends for years, and McInerney had been living with Gordon part-time despite owning her own homes in Liverpool and Portugal. The prosecution also claimed Gordon drowned the guinea pigs because he believed their presence would raise suspicion if McInerney, who was devoted to them and planned to take them to Portugal, was no longer around.
Gordon initially told investigators that he found McInerney on the floor after an overdose and killed her to end her suffering. He later allegedly changed his account, claiming self-defense after she attacked him. Mere days after the alleged murder, Gordon reportedly visited McInerney’s house in Portugal and took photographs of himself there.
