Footage captured the moment a Good Samaritan provided a police officer with a lift in his van to help apprehend a suspected shoplifter on a bicycle in Guildford. The incident occurred when officers from Surrey Police spotted an individual suspected of stealing from a nearby shop and the suspect fled on a bike.
PC Sperling began a foot pursuit, but a passing van driver pulled alongside and offered the officer a ride. The van driver and officer worked together to get ahead of the fleeing suspect, allowing PC Sperling to exit the vehicle and make the arrest.
Surrey Police shared the footage on social media, expressing gratitude to the van driver for his assistance. "Teamwork makes the dream work," the department stated.
This incident echoes similar instances where members of the public have aided law enforcement. In September, a woman provided a lift to an officer pursuing a suspect in South Wales, and in August, an officer borrowed a bicycle to chase a thief through Twickenham.
