Scott Simmonds, 49, has been jailed for three years and four months after admitting to dangerous driving, drink-driving, and failing to stop. The incident occurred on April 23, 2022, outside the Station House pub in Tonbridge.

Simmonds became enraged after being 'barged' on the dancefloor by Joe Neal. He threw a glass, was ejected from the pub, and then drove off in his car. He collided with another vehicle before returning to the pub.

Upon seeing Mr. Neal on the pavement, Simmonds mounted the kerb and deliberately drove into him. He was unaware that Mr. Neal was the boyfriend of his estranged daughter, Megan Lock-West, whom he had not seen since she was five years old. Ms. Lock-West was walking behind Mr. Neal and was also struck by her father as Mr. Neal was knocked back.

Simmonds told police he had 'got the hump,' lost his temper, and intended to frighten Mr. Neal in revenge. He later admitted, "Not my brightest move."

When stopped by police approximately 90 minutes later, Simmonds had an alcohol reading of 80 micrograms in 100 milliliters of breath, more than double the legal limit of 35.

During the sentencing at Maidstone Crown Court, the judge noted that the car was used as a dangerous weapon and that Simmonds' intention was to cause serious harm. The judge stated that Simmonds could have been facing a murder charge if Mr. Neal had died. The judge also acknowledged Simmonds' remorse and the steps he has taken to address his alcohol problem but emphasized the severity of the offense.

In addition to the prison sentence, Simmonds received a four-year and eight-month driving ban and must pass an extended test to regain his license.
