A former Virginia soccer coach, Shannon Meyyar, 47, has been charged with four counts of taking indecent liberties with a minor. The charges stem from an alleged months-long sexual relationship with a 17-year-old player that began in February 2019, according to police and court records.

Meyyar, who coached soccer at Williamsburg Christian Academy, is accused of initiating contact with the student via social media. Court documents indicate that some alleged encounters took place in Meyyar's home, while others occurred in her car.

The allegations surfaced nearly seven years after the events in question, following a tip received by law enforcement on a Tuesday. Detectives launched an investigation, leading to Meyyar's arrest on Thursday. She has been cooperating with investigators but has not denied the allegations.

Williamsburg Christian Academy confirmed that Meyyar was an independently contracted co-ed soccer coach during the 2019 season and also coached intermittently in the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons. The school has stated it is fully cooperating with law enforcement.

Meyyar is currently being held without bond at the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail. The investigation by the James City County Police Department is ongoing.
