Former President Donald Trump has called for an immediate Department of Justice investigation into Democratic lawmakers whom he accuses of "extortion" for allegedly threatening Republicans with impeachment.

In a series of posts on Truth Social, Trump asserted that Democrats are "sending threats of impeachment to GOP politicians" and engaging in "extortion at the highest level." He specifically named Senator Elissa Slotkin of Michigan, claiming she is targeting "young people that believe in Republican Values."

Trump, who is still dealing with the aftermath of a significant Democratic victory in the recent midterm elections, stated that these actions constitute "Weaponization and Lawfare at another level." He also accused Democrats of "threatening our Donors" with "imprisonment and many other levels of punishment, just because they happen to be Republicans or Republican supporters."

He issued a directive to the Department of Justice to "look into this criminal act, immediately!" Trump claimed that "threatening letters" had been sent to some Republicans, although the content of these letters and their recipients remain unclear.

The Daily Mail has reached out to the White House, the DOJ, and Senator Slotkin for comment.
