President Donald Trump announced Saturday that he has ordered the Department of Justice to investigate Democratic lawmakers for allegedly threatening Attorney General Todd Blanche and other administration officials with impeachment. Trump made the announcement via a post on Truth Social.
According to Trump, Democrats are "threatening a lot of people, including the Attorney General of the United States, and others, with Impeachment and many other forms of punishment, even though they admit they have no reason to do so." He asserted that no "impeachable acts" had been committed by Blanche or other administration officials.
The president also claimed that Democrats have been threatening Republican donors with imprisonment due to their political views. He specifically named Sen. Elissa Slotkin of Michigan, accusing her of stating she would "go after all young people that believe in Republican Values." Trump appeared to be referencing comments Slotkin made on Oct. 13 at the University of Chicago, where she discussed wanting to pursue "signature cases" against individuals who "enabled" Trump, aiming to create a "deterrence message."
Trump concluded his post by calling these actions "EXTORTIONISTS" and demanding that the DOJ investigate the alleged actions as a "criminal act."
