Pemberton, New Jersey Mayor Matthew Bianchini lost his reelection bid to Democratic challenger Belinda Fontanez, according to unofficial results released Wednesday. Bianchini, a Republican, garnered only 1,983 votes, representing just over 30% of the ballots cast.

The election results come nearly two weeks after a widely shared video captured Bianchini lunging at a resident during a town hall meeting on October 21. During the heated exchange, Bianchini shouted, “I am getting you, I am f–king getting you!” at Michael Sawka, a vocal critic.

Bianchini later admitted to having "just basically snapped" during the incident but defended his actions, stating he was trying to protect his family. He claimed Sawka made a hostile gesture toward his daughter and that his wife and daughter were "physically and verbally attacked." Bianchini wrote on Facebook, "I will not apologize for my actions last night. If you attack my family, as that resident did last night, I will act."

Several individuals, including Councilman Perry Doyle Jr., intervened to prevent Bianchini from reaching Sawka. The confrontation led to calls for Bianchini's immediate resignation.

Bianchini was appointed mayor in January 2026 to replace former Mayor Jack Tompkins, who resigned amid allegations of sexual misconduct. Bianchini had been serving as a township committee member prior to his mayoral appointment. He conceded the race to Fontanez, offering his congratulations and support for a smooth transition.
