Ruben Amorim has officially begun his tenure as the new head coach of AC Milan, arriving in Italy to embark on what he described as a significant challenge.
Amorim, who signed a three-year contract with the Rossoneri last month, landed at Linate Airport in Milan on Monday. He expressed enthusiasm for his new role, which he believes presents a greater task than his recent experience at Manchester United.
"I'm really very happy to be here, it's an honour to be the coach of Milan," Amorim told reporters. "If you read an old interview of mine you will understand it, for me a special club. It's a very big challenge that I accepted even if after the last one [at Manchester United] I told myself to accept a smaller one. Perhaps it is a greater challenge than the last. I'm proud to be here, we all are, me and my staff."
Amorim's appointment follows the departure of Massimiliano Allegri, who was sacked after AC Milan failed to secure a top-four finish and a Champions League spot for the 2026-27 season. The team finished 17 points behind Serie A champions Inter Milan.
Despite the gap and the work ahead, Amorim expressed a determination to bring success back to AC Milan. "I'm at Milan to win, if you're Milan coach you have to have this mentality," he stated. "I'm not naive, I know there's a lot of work to do, but if you're the Milan coach you have to play to win."
Amorim was dismissed from his role at Manchester United in January, just 14 months after taking charge. During his time at Old Trafford, he had previously warned of impending difficulties.
