Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford and his wife, Kelly, provided a memorable experience for members of the military before the team's Salute to Service game against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday at SoFi Stadium. The couple purchased a suite for 10 active-duty and veteran Navy SEALs and their guests.
During the game, which the Rams won 24-9, Stafford completed 17 of 25 passes for 157 yards, with one touchdown and one interception. He expressed the importance of supporting the military, stating, "They're ultra important to us being able to live the lives that we live." Stafford also noted his family's history of military service, including his grandfather and brother-in-law.
Stafford greeted the military members before the game, shaking their hands. His daughters were seen wearing custom jackets that read "Freedom" and "Thank you." Kelly Stafford also spent time with the guests.
According to a Rams press release, the military members had the opportunity to take photos on the field with the Stafford family and received customized shirts from them. The Rams organization also paid tribute to the military throughout the game. The national anthem was performed by "VOICES OF SERVICE," a vocal group of military veterans, and the "CORPS COLOR GUARD" presented the colors.
During halftime, the Rams honored six Purple Heart recipients. The victory over the Chargers marked the Rams' second consecutive win, bringing their record to .500 at 4-4 for the season.
