Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones expressed his displeasure following the team's 33-30 overtime loss to the Arizona Cardinals, but indicated he has no immediate plans to alter the coaching staff. The Cowboys now hold a 3-5 record on the season.
Jones, when asked about the possibility of a coaching change, referenced a mid-season decision he made in the past. "I made a change with Wade Phillips there in the middle of the season. I don’t see that here at all," Jones told reporters after the game. He did not offer a strong endorsement for head coach Brian Schottenheimer when questioned about concerns that the coach wasn't getting the job done.
"Well, I don’t know," Jones stated. "None of us are getting it done and that should be my concern. So I’m not pointing at Schotty, I’m not pointing to anybody, but none of us have it done. I haven’t been involved in too many games that we should have wanted and we had the opportunities we had to win this game. So that is a big snapshot that we want to put above our mirror."
The Cowboys initially held a 14-0 lead in the second quarter. However, the Cardinals, led by backup quarterback Gardner Minshew who replaced an benched Jacoby Brissett, scored three touchdowns in the fourth quarter to erase the deficit. The game went into overtime after the Cardinals missed an extra point with six seconds remaining in regulation.
Jones was visibly upset during the game's conclusion, reportedly shouting an expletive and hitting a railing as Chad Ryland kicked the game-winning field goal for the Cardinals.
