St. John's head coach Rick Pitino has lauded transfer guard Quinn Ellis as the most intelligent point guard he has ever coached. Pitino's praise came just months after Ellis arrived on campus, indicating a significant early impact from the English guard.
Pitino, known for his high praise of players, has spoken in near-reverential terms about Ellis's basketball IQ, maturity on the court, and selfless play. These accolades are notable coming so early in the season for a newcomer.
Ellis, a 6-foot-5 guard from Sheffield, England, joins the Red Storm after spending last season playing for Olimpia Milano in the EuroLeague. His experience in a high-level European league appears to have quickly translated to his new collegiate environment.
