Kobbie Mainoo has expressed confidence that Manchester United is just one victory away from transforming their season, emphasizing the team's obligation to manager Michael Carrick and the supporters.
The midfielder stated that the players must reciprocate Carrick's backing on and off the pitch by fighting as a united front. "In these tough times you can't expect the fans 100,000 per cent of the time to be happy and cheering when we're not putting out results, you know. We owe it to them to put the results out there for them to cheer again," Mainoo said.
Manchester United enters a Champions League match against Roma at Old Trafford on Tuesday without a win in their last nine games, placing them precariously close to the Premier League relegation zone. The team's struggles have put Carrick's position under scrutiny and led to fan discontent following a 3-0 home defeat to Bournemouth.
Despite the challenging period, Mainoo, who has been with the club since his academy days, remains optimistic. "There are big, big games ahead and I feel like we're one win away from changing that," he remarked. "I've been at this club for a long time and I know there's always going to be ups and downs. It's never going to be plain sailing and smooth to the top. So you expect bumps and the best thing about them is you're able to bounce back from them."
Mainoo signed a new five-year contract in April after re-establishing himself in the team under Carrick. He highlighted the manager's belief in him, stating, "I'm very grateful to the boss for putting the trust in me as soon as he came in, putting that belief in me and giving me all the advice that he has." The young player acknowledges Carrick's deep understanding of the club's history and winning standards, taking his advice to heart.
He aims to take on more responsibility within the squad, seeking to impose himself more frequently in matches. "I want to impose myself more in games and they've definitely helped to do that, giving me more responsibility with taking the ball," Mainoo said. He stressed the importance of self-belief, even during difficult periods, and his commitment to learning from every experience, including times when he is not playing. MaiNoo recently returned to action against Chelsea after a five-game absence. He is determined to uphold the standards associated with Manchester United and plans to help spread the club's values throughout his tenure.
