Significant changes are reportedly on the horizon for the Philadelphia Eagles organization following a demoralizing 27-10 loss to the Washington Commanders on Sunday Night Football. An NFL insider suggested that the team's recent string of poor performances, including back-to-back primetime defeats, will likely lead to swift and severe consequences.
Despite being without starting quarterback Jalen Hurts, the Eagles were expected to secure a victory against a Commanders team that had only managed one win prior to the matchup. However, backup quarterback Tanner McKee struggled, throwing for 212 yards, an interception, and was sacked five times. One of those sacks resulted in a strip-sack that directly led to a Commanders field goal.
"This [Eagles] team is going to look very different come the bye... it's a loss that loses people their job," a source told NBC Sports Philadelphia's Ryan Fowler. "They just got their a** kicked back to back weeks in primetime, there will be changes."
The Eagles' injury report is extensive, with 14 players on Injured Reserve, including Hurts, wide receivers DeVonta Smith and Dontayvion Wicks, linebacker Jihaad Campbell, and backup running back Dameon Pierce. Nevertheless, the loss to Washington has intensified scrutiny on head coach Nick Sirianni.
"Until we coach better, until we have better... detail as coaches, until our players play with better detail, then we're gonna see the same results," Sirianni stated after the game. "And that falls on me... I feel like with all the detail that's not happening right now, I got to try a different approach."
Sirianni acknowledged his responsibility for the team's current struggles, adding, "I'll do everything I can do to try different things to make sure that we're getting that point across."
The Eagles' next game is against the NFC East-leading New York Giants, followed by a bye week.
