Los Angeles Lakers guard Austin Reaves found himself in an unusual situation during the team's 131-125 victory over the Toronto Raptors on Sunday night. With the Lakers leading comfortably, Reaves gifted his signature headband to a fan sitting behind the team's bench, seemingly under the impression that his game participation was complete.

However, the game's momentum shifted unexpectedly in the final minutes. As the Raptors began to close the gap, Lakers coach JJ Redick made the decision to reinsert his key rotation players, including Reaves, to secure the win. This necessitated Reaves retrieving his headband from the fan before re-entering the game with 44 seconds remaining.

The incident occurred after Reaves was subbed out with 1:43 left in the game, at which point the Lakers held a 15-point lead. Within two minutes, that lead had dwindled to single digits. A layup by Jaden Bradley trimmed the deficit to six points with 44 seconds remaining, prompting Redick to call a timeout and bring back Reaves, Matisse Thybulle, Walker Kessler, and Luka Dončić.

Fortunately for Reaves, the fan appeared willing to return the headband without issue. Following the game, Redick stated that he would be more cautious about substituting players late in games to avoid similar occurrences. The Lakers improved their season record to 5-2 with the win.
