Morgan Rogers has completed a sensational £117 million transfer to Chelsea, making him the most expensive English player in history. The midfielder finalized his move to Stamford Bridge, a deal that saw Chelsea secure the player after reportedly intervening in negotiations with Arsenal.

Sources indicate that Arsenal's interest in the 23-year-old was capped at approximately £80 million. Chelsea, however, quickly reached an agreement with Aston Villa to meet the higher valuation, surpassing their previous club record transfer fee of £106 million for Enzo Fernandez in 2023.

"For me, Chelsea are the biggest club in London and a club I've always admired since I was a kid," Rogers stated following the confirmation of his move. "I'm really excited about the project with the new manager, the players we've got and where the club is heading. That's why I'm here and I can't wait to get started."

Rogers has signed a six-year contract with Chelsea, extending his commitment until 2032, with an option for an additional year. The transfer was reportedly accelerated after Rogers spoke with manager Xabi Alonso and agreed personal terms, with the deal being finalized within 48 hours.

Chelsea has reportedly been monitoring Rogers for over two years, and with the full backing of Alonso, they have secured the most significant transfer of the current summer window. He is set to join an attacking lineup that includes Cole Palmer, Joao Pedro, and Estevao Willian.

Morgan Rogers will now become Chelsea's most expensive signing, surpassing the £106m paid for Enzo Fernandez

Middlesbrough is expected to receive a substantial portion of the £117 million transfer fee due to a 20% sell-on clause negotiated when they sold Rogers to Aston Villa for an initial £8 million plus add-ons. This clause could see Middlesbrough benefit by approximately £20 million.

Rogers is expected to take a three-week break following his World Cup commitments before joining his new teammates. His integration into the squad will occur after Chelsea concludes their pre-season tour in Australia and Asia, with the team scheduled to depart for Sydney later this week. Chelsea captain Reece James is also understood to have spoken with Rogers about the club while both were with the England national team during the World Cup.
