Former Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has been pictured in a Trabzonspor shirt, signaling his impending transfer to the Turkish club. Salah traveled from Mykonos, Greece, where he had been on holiday after participating in the World Cup with Egypt, to Istanbul on Wednesday.
A video released by Trabzonspor showed Salah wearing the club's kit, featuring his name and the number 61, addressing supporters. "Trabzon are you ready, I can hear you," Salah said in the video. "See you very soon."
The club had invited fans to join a livestream of Salah's flight, and supporters gathered at Istanbul's Ataturk Airport ahead of his arrival. His private jet departed from Mykonos Airport around 10:30 a.m. local time.
While Turkish giants Besiktas were initially understood to be Salah's preferred choice, negotiations reportedly stalled. Trabzonspor publicly announced talks with Salah on Tuesday night, informing their followers on X of his travel plans and confirming a welcome program would be in place.
Trabzonspor stated that Salah was scheduled to arrive at Istanbul Atatürk Airport's General Aviation Terminal at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 5, with an evening arrival planned for Trabzon. Details of the welcome program were to be shared through the club's official communication channels.
Salah's departure from Liverpool was announced in March, with the player agreeing to terminate the final year of his contract. This move follows a season where his performance level reportedly dipped, scoring ten goals compared to 34 in the previous campaign. He is the third-highest goalscorer in Liverpool's history, with 255 goals.
Trabzonspor, who finished third in the Turkish Super Lig last season, would secure their most high-profile signing if the transfer is confirmed. The club has won seven domestic titles. Other notable players at Trabzonspor include Manchester United loanee Andre Onana and former Manchester City defender Stefan Savic.
