Michael Edwards has left his position as CEO of Football Operations for Fenway Sports Group (FSG), the owners of Liverpool Football Club. The departure of the 47-year-old executive, who has been instrumental in numerous player acquisitions, was announced Friday.

Edwards previously served as Liverpool's sporting director from 2016 to 2022, a period marked by significant successes including Premier League and Champions League titles. He returned to FSG in 2024 in an expanded role, overseeing Liverpool's sporting director, Richard Hughes, whom Edwards himself had appointed. Under the leadership of manager Arne Slot, Liverpool secured another Premier League title a year after Edwards' return.

This is Edwards' second departure from his role within the organization. His current contract was due to expire next year, making his exit a year in advance of its conclusion. Edwards is credited with overseeing the signings of key players such as Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mané, and more recently, players acquired under Arne Slot's tenure.
