The future of Los Angeles Chargers pass rusher Khalil Mack may hinge on the team's performance in their Week 8 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams. NFL insider Ian Rapoport indicated that a trade sending Mack back to the Chicago Bears remains a "very much a possibility".
Rapoport discussed the Bears' recent blockbuster trade for Jeffrey Simmons and suggested that Mack could be involved in a similar deal structure, potentially reuniting him with his former team. "The Bears may not actually be done, Rich; I’m told they are still calling around. Still looking on the edges of their defense," Rapoport stated. "Won’t be surprised if a Khalil Mack trade was in the offer here. A possible reunion for Mack and the Bears."
This potential move would mark the third trade in Mack's career, with each previous transaction involving an AFC West team and the Bears. He was initially traded from the Raiders to the Bears in 2018 and then dealt by Chicago to the Chargers in 2022.
Mack signed a one-year deal with the Chargers in March. However, with the team holding an 0-7 record, their playoff aspirations are diminishing, leading to increased speculation about Mack's availability before the NFL Trade Deadline on November 10.
During his time with the Bears, Mack was a four-time Pro Bowl selection, an All-Pro, and the recipient of the Dick Butkus Award in 2018, recording 12.5 sacks, 18 quarterback hits, and six forced fumbles that season. At 35 years old, Mack has continued to perform at a high level, contributing three sacks and 19 combined tackles through the Chargers' first six games this season.
