Jimmy Butler has playfully set a steep price for rookie Lajae Jones to acquire his No. 10 jersey: $25 million. The Golden State Warriors veteran forward made the humorous demand after the rookie, drafted 54th overall in the 2026 NBA Draft, expressed interest in keeping the number he wore throughout his college career, including at Florida State.
"You want to buy my number? You can't afford that. Zero shot," Butler said with a smile, according to Warriors Talk. "Just wear number like 01 and say that it's your number backwards. For $25 million, you can have my number then."
This exchange highlights Butler's competitive and business-minded persona, reminiscent of his past antics, such as jokingly charging $20 for coffee during the 2020 NBA bubble.
Butler has historically switched jersey numbers throughout his career, having worn No. 33 at Marquette, No. 21 with the Chicago Bulls, No. 23 with the Minnesota Timberwolves and Philadelphia 76ers, and No. 22 with the Miami Heat before adopting No. 10 after joining the Warriors in February 2025. Jones, however, has a longer personal history with the No. 10, having worn it at multiple collegiate stops.
NBA hierarchy typically dictates that veterans retain their numbers, and for a second-round pick like Jones, securing a guaranteed role is the immediate priority. He may need to select a different number as he attempts to prove himself during the Summer League and training camp.
Speculation about potential Warriors trades, including a blockbuster move for Anthony Davis that could potentially lure LeBron James, could also impact jersey number availability. However, for the time being, Butler's No. 10 comes with a tongue-in-cheek asking price of $25 million.
