Hollywood actor Hugh Jackman has confirmed he is in discussions to acquire a stake in English football club Norwich City, a move that could lead to a friendly rivalry with his close friend and fellow actor Ryan Reynolds, who co-owns Wrexham.
Jackman, an Australian known for his roles in "Wolverine" and "Deadpool," revealed his interest in the Championship side during a recent talkSPORT interview. He stated, "I'm very, very interested – and talking about it right now." Jackman, whose mother hails from Norwich, expressed his personal connection to the club, often referred to as the Canaries. "I'm all about the Canaries," he added.
This potential investment would place Jackman in competition with Reynolds, who, along with actor Rob McElhenney, has overseen Wrexham's significant rise. Since their co-ownership began, Wrexham has achieved three promotions, moving from the National League to the Championship between 2022 and 2025, with aspirations for the Premier League.
Jackman voiced optimism for Norwich's prospects, predicting, "This is the year we're going to get promoted." He also humorously suggested a scenario where both Norwich and Wrexham could achieve promotion in the same year.
Jackman has a long-standing connection to Norwich City, having previously been offered a chance to invest in the club in 2010. At the time, he declined the opportunity, later recounting in 2011 that he had "made big mistakes" by not investing despite being a fan who had visited Carrow Road, the club's home ground, with his mother.
American billionaire Mark Attanasio currently holds the majority stake in Norwich City. Attanasio, who also owns the Milwaukee Brewers baseball team, acquired majority control from former owners Delia Smith and Michael Wynn Jones in August 2024, having initially invested in the club in 2022.
