Giannis Antetokounmpo stated his motivation level is "at a million percent" following his acquisition by the Miami Heat in a significant trade last month. The two-time MVP expressed his eagerness to join the Heat, anticipating the team's environment will bring out his best performance.

"It's a place I feel like brings pressure, and I thrive under pressure. It brings the best out of me," Antetokounmpo told ESPN. "I'm excited to be coached by [Erik Spoelstra]. I'm excited to be around the city. I understand the fans are very passionate, but right now, I'm hungry to win. I want to win and I will do whatever it takes for me to win."

Antetokounmpo was traded to the Heat in exchange for Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kasparas Jakucionis, three first-round draft picks, one pick swap, and a second-round pick. His former Milwaukee Bucks teammate, Bobby Portis, was also part of the deal.

At 31 years old, Antetokounmpo aims to become the next star to lead the Heat to an NBA championship. He noted the historical significance of the franchise, stating, "You walk through the hallways and you see the history and you see the players that have been a part of this organization and things that they’ve done. I want to make all the moves that they’ve made worth it."

This move comes after a period of disappointment for Antetokounmpo in Milwaukee. Following their championship win in 2021, the Bucks did not advance past the second round of the playoffs in subsequent years, and they failed to make the postseason entirely in the last season with a 32-50 record.

Despite the team's struggles, Antetokounmpo had a strong individual season. Portis believes his teammate is well-prepared to rebound. "Obviously last year, probably not the best year for any one of us. We didn’t make the playoffs. It was kind of injury-riddled last year," Portis said. "Obviously the back and forth with getting traded, not getting traded, then get shut down by the team. So I think he has a lot of fuel to the fire and I think the [Miami] fans will be in for a treat."

The Heat also faced challenges, missing the playoffs last year and being eliminated in the first round in the 2024-25 and 2023-24 seasons. However, the team reached the NBA Finals just three years ago in 2023, and they will look to Antetokounmpo to help them make a similar deep playoff run.
