Turkish club Fenerbahce has emerged as a suitor for Aston Villa forward Ollie Watkins, with the English club facing financial constraints that could necessitate a significant player sale this summer. Watkins, an England international, currently has two years remaining on his contract with Aston Villa.

Despite being the club's leading scorer in each season since his arrival in 2020, Watkins is understood to be on a lower wage than some of his teammates. Fenerbahce is reportedly prepared to offer him a substantial pay increase, which would also place him in a stronger negotiating position for future contract discussions.

Watkins has recently found form, scoring 13 goals in his last 16 matches. This late-season surge helped Aston Villa secure the Europa League title, their first major trophy since 1996, and a fourth-place finish in the Premier League.

Under different circumstances, Aston Villa might consider selling Watkins. Approaching 31 years old in December and with two years left on his deal, this summer represents a potential final opportunity for the club to secure a significant transfer fee for the striker. However, Aston Villa is currently operating under UEFA's financial fair play regulations, having breached spending rules in each of the past two seasons. This means the club cannot spend more on transfers than it earns, putting them in a difficult position.

To replace a player of Watkins' caliber, Villa would likely need to command a high transfer fee. The club is reportedly unwilling to consider offers for Watkins unless they exceed £100 million. Another Aston Villa attacker, Morgan Rogers, has also attracted interest, notably from Arsenal, but a sale for him is also unlikely unless a substantial offer is received.

Watkins is currently with the England squad, preparing for a World Cup quarter-final match. He has made one substitute appearance for the team in the tournament.
