Deebo Samuel is set to return to the San Francisco 49ers after agreeing to a one-year deal worth up to $7 million. The confirmation came from a 49ers spokesman late Thursday, as reported by The Daily Mail.

Samuel's arrival coincides with ongoing contract negotiations that have kept star receiver Brandon Aiyuk away from training camp. Aiyuk has reportedly demanded a trade following a failure to secure a new contract. Adding to the team's receiver room concerns, third-year wideout Ricky Pearsall may require season-ending knee surgery, though this has not yet been confirmed.

Samuel spent the 2025 season with the Washington Commanders, where he recorded 727 receiving yards and five touchdowns on 72 receptions in 16 games. Prior to his stint in Washington, Samuel was a key offensive weapon for the 49ers. In 2021, he amassed 1,770 total yards and 14 touchdowns, earning an All-Pro selection. During his tenure with San Francisco between 2021 and 2024, Samuel was also utilized as a runner, carrying the ball 180 times for 958 yards and 17 touchdowns.
