Arsenal has reached an agreement in principle to sign midfielder Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle for a fee of £77 million plus add-ons, according to reports. The Premier League club has scheduled a medical for the player next week, signaling a potential end to a lengthy transfer process.
While the contract has not yet been finalized and finer details are still being negotiated, sources indicate the deal is now very close to completion. Guimaraes, who is 28 years old, informed Newcastle of his desire to leave several weeks ago. He did not travel with the Newcastle squad for their pre-season training camp.
This transfer marks the departure of another key player from Newcastle this summer, following Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali. The club has also seen manager Eddie Howe depart after four and a half years.
Guimaraes was part of the Newcastle team that secured the club's first major trophy in 70 years, the Carabao Cup, in March 2025.
If the transfer is completed, Guimaraes would become Arsenal's fourth signing of the summer. The club has already made Piero Hincapie's loan move from Bayer Leverkusen permanent, signed free agent goalkeeper Illan Meslier, and completed a £36 million deal for winger Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge.
Arsenal had previously attempted to sign Guimaraes in 2022 from Lyon, but Newcastle ultimately secured the midfielder, who has earned 48 caps for Brazil and participated in the recent World Cup.
