Usha Vance, wife of Vice President JD Vance, has publicly responded to a New York Times analysis that examined the political messaging of prominent pregnant women in the Trump administration, specifically focusing on her maternity fashion. Vance, who is expecting her fourth child, took to X (formerly Twitter) to address the article, pointing out that a coral dress featured in a Father's Day video was from Old Navy and cost significantly less than its original price.
Vance shared a screenshot of the dress, noting it was marked down from $49.99 to $12.49, with an additional discount bringing the final price to $8.75. Her post humorously questioned what the Times would say about her "elastic-waistband pants and compression socks." The New York Times piece, written by fashion critic Vanessa Friedman, also discussed the public pregnancies of White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt and Katie Miller.
As Vance approaches her July due date, her maternity wardrobe has been a subject of interest, reportedly featuring a mix of high-end and more accessible items, as well as some re-worn pieces. In January, the couple announced they were expecting a boy, joining their three other children: sons Ewan, eight, and Vivek, five, and daughter Mirabel, four.
Earlier in her pregnancy, Vance was seen in a dark green Mackage wool coat, retailing for over $1,000, which she had previously worn in February 2025 during a visit to Germany. She paired this with Stuart Weitzman knee-high boots, originally priced at $895 and on sale for $224. For a reception in Italy in February, she wore a cream-colored Toccin turtleneck dress ($325) with Manolo Blahnik boots, which cost $1,895. She re-wore the Toccin dress later that month for an interview with Lara Trump.
In March, Vance wore a green midi dress, potentially by Atlein, to meet with the Taoiseach of Ireland and his wife. The dress was available to rent for $104 on Rent the Runway. Later in March, during a trip to Michigan, she opted for a cream sweater and matching maxi skirt, topped with an oversized cream coat from Toccin, which was on sale for $582 (down from $1,295).
In April, Vance wore a lilac midi dress from Toccin during a visit to Hungary. The dress featured a short-sleeve cashmere sweater and a silk skirt and was on sale for approximately $300 (marked down from $595).
More recently, for Military Mother's Day at the White House, she wore a form-fitting black Milly dress with a large pink flower, which originally retailed for $395. She also re-wore this dress for her summer reading challenge filming. The article noted that in the Father's Day video, Vance told her husband that the new baby meant he would have "many more years of reading to children."
