Joanne McNally has revealed the detailed, almost military-style procedure employed by BBC producers when a contestant is banished from the set of Celebrity Traitors. McNally, who was banished during a roundtable in the latest episode, described the process on her "My Therapist Ghosted Me" podcast.
According to McNally, upon being banished, contestants are quickly escorted out a side door and into a waiting van, reminiscent of a scene from "The Bodyguard." Each contestant is equipped with a small, pre-prepared emergency backpack containing essentials, should they be eliminated. Following their departure from the castle, they are taken to a separate hotel.
The following day, banished contestants return to the castle to film necessary cutaway scenes and final interviews. McNally emphasized that producers are extremely strict about preventing any interaction between eliminated players and those still in the competition. This includes filming scenes like McNally's in the bath, ensuring the castle is clear of departed contestants before the remaining players are active. "It's such a huge production and they run it so military," she stated.
The Celebrity Traitors finale, which saw Faithfuls Romesh Ranganathan and Sebastian 'Bash' Croft crowned winners, drew a record-breaking 11.2 million viewers in the UK. Despite some critics deeming the finale "underwhelming," the episode achieved the highest overnight and consolidated TV audience figures of 2026 thus far.
Ranganathan and Croft each won £41,500 for their chosen charities, Choose Love and the Refugee Council, respectively. The series finale concluded with the winners joining host Claudia Winkleman outside Ardross Castle.
