Former Mexican television host Inés Gómez Mont, notably recognized for proposing to Tom Brady in a wedding dress at Super Bowl XLII media day, has been arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Miami. Her apprehension over an immigration violation comes after years on the run from a separate $160 million fraud and money laundering case in Mexico.
Mexican prosecutors obtained arrest warrants for Gómez Mont and her husband, attorney Victor Manuel Alvarez Puga, in 2021, alleging they operated a network of shell companies tied to government contracts, including prison system funds. The charges include organized crime, money laundering, and tax fraud.
Following the issuance of the warrants, the couple reportedly left Mexico. Gómez Mont has publicly maintained her innocence on social media. Mexican authorities pursued her provisional detention for extradition in late 2025 and submitted a formal request through the Department of Justice.
Alvarez Puga was previously detained by ICE for immigration violations but has since posted bail, with his current whereabouts unconfirmed. Gómez Mont remains in ICE custody at the Broward Transitional Center in Florida. Her legal team is contesting her detention with a sealed habeas petition. A federal judge recently denied her emergency request to prevent a transfer out of South Florida, but the court has ordered the government to provide justification for denying her petition.
Gómez Mont gained public attention in 2008 during Super Bowl XLII week when she appeared at media day in a wedding dress and proposed to then-New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady. Brady, who was dating Gisele Bündchen at the time, reportedly laughed off the proposal.
Gómez Mont's case involves two legal tracks: her ongoing U.S. immigration detention and Mexico's extradition request.
