Celebrity hair stylist John Frieda, who achieved millionaire status with his eponymous Frizz Ease shampoo range, has died at the age of 75. His death was announced Tuesday evening via a post on his Instagram account.
Frieda, whose clientele included Princess Diana and Joanna Lumley, was married to singer and actress Lulu for over a decade. The couple married in October 1976 and had one child together, Jordan, before divorcing in 1992.
A tribute posted on his Instagram account stated, "It is with heavy hearts that we share the news that our dear John passed away peacefully….surrounded by his family." The post further described him as "more than a mentor," and "a true icon of the hair industry."
Born in London in 1951, Frieda launched his first hair salon in his mid-20s. He developed his Frizz Ease shampoo range based on the principle that different hair types require distinct treatment. The brand was sold to a Japanese company for £260 million in 2002, and by 2025, Frieda was recognized among the UK's wealthiest figures in the beauty industry.
"His talent and passion touched so many, and his legacy will live on in every single one of us," the Instagram tribute continued. "Our thoughts are with John's family and everyone who loved him. Rest in peace, John. You will be forever in our hearts."
