“Toy Story 5” has officially begun streaming on video-on-demand platforms, including Prime Video, on August 18. The new film revisits the characters of Andy's toy collection, who are now with their new owner, Bonnie.

While Woody (Tom Hanks) is absent at the close of “Toy Story 4,” he makes a return in this installment alongside Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen) and Jessie (Joan Cusack). The narrative centers on Bonnie’s difficulty making friends, which leads her parents to purchase a new gadget: a tablet named Lilypad, voiced by Greta Lee. This new tech toy quickly becomes Bonnie’s sole focus, shifting the room's toy hierarchy and raising questions for Jessie about the future of playtime.

New characters introduced include Mr. Smartypants, voiced by Conan O’Brien, described as a tech-infused toy. The film has received a 3.5 out of 4-star rating from NY Post entertainment critic Johnny Oleksinski, who noted that the "digital age gives Pixar’s playthings a renewed sense of purpose and atypically high stakes."

For those looking to watch at home, “Toy Story 5” is available for digital purchase on Prime Video for $29.99 or for rent at $5.99. An Amazon account is required for purchase, though a Prime membership is not necessary. Renters have 30 days to start watching and 48 hours to finish once playback begins. Amazon also offers a bundle of all five “Toy Story” films for $69.99, a reduction from its original $99.95 price.

A physical Blu-ray steelbook release is scheduled for September 22, though preorders are not yet available. This physical option provides a tangible alternative to digital ownership.

The voice cast includes many returning actors, such as Tom Hanks as Woody, Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear, and Joan Cusack as Jessie. New additions include Greta Lee as Lilypad, Conan O’Brien as Smarty Pants, and Scarlett Spears as Bonnie Anderson. Other notable voice actors include Annie Potts as Bo Peep, Keanu Reeves as Duke Caboom, and Kristen Schaal as Trixie.
