A 17-year-old son of an Oscar-winning actor drew attention Friday at the Toronto International Film Festival for his close resemblance to his father as the pair attended the premiere of The Lost Carpet.
The father, an Oscar winner whose early roles included Dazed and Confused and A Time to Kill, posed alongside his eldest child on the red carpet, where photographers captured multiple images of the two dressed for the evening. The young man, following his father into acting, has previously appeared in a children’s film credited as a younger version of his parent.
The actor, now in his mid-50s, received an Academy Award earlier in his career and has been a frequent presence on the festival circuit. His partner is a Brazilian-American model and designer; the couple have spoken publicly about their approach to parenting and about raising their three children, a pair of older siblings and a younger brother.
The teen, who is the family’s eldest child, began appearing on-screen as a child and is credited with a role in a kids' film released in 2017 in which he portrayed a miniature version of his father. Friday’s appearance at TIFF is one of several recent outings that have generated attention for the family, both for the parent’s ongoing work in films and for the resemblance between the two generations.
Toronto International Film Festival runs annually in early September and draws filmmakers, actors and industry professionals from around the world to premiere new films and host press and industry events. Red carpet appearances at TIFF frequently spotlight established actors promoting new projects alongside family members and colleagues.
Representatives for the family did not immediately respond to requests for comment Friday. Photographs from the event show the pair smiling for cameras and greeting attendees before entering the premiere venue.
