A Sydney man has been hailed as the winner of Halloween for his costume that recreated a widely publicized incident during a Hyrox race. Micro-influencer Jack Jones dressed as Australian athlete Joanna Wietrzyk, who experienced sudden bowel incontinence during a Hyrox event in Beijing in September and continued the race.
Jones's costume featured tiny black shorts, a prop barbell, and brown streaks smeared down his legs, accompanied by a T-shirt that read, "A win is a win." He completed the look with a black headband, grey crew socks, and black trainers, adopting athletic poses for photos shared on Instagram.
The costume drew widespread amusement from his followers, with comments including "You're the f**king best! I love this!" and "The best part of this is that you would literally smash a Hyrox race without even trying."
The original incident involving Wietrzyk sparked significant debate regarding hygiene, athlete welfare, and race procedures. In response, HYROX co-founder Moritz Fürste apologized and announced immediate changes to the event's rules and protocols to prevent similar occurrences.
HYROX, a fitness competition that combines running with eight different workout stations, has seen a surge in popularity. Following Wietrzyk's race, HYROX China stated that affected areas and equipment were thoroughly disinfected and sanitized. Wietrzyk has since returned to competition, winning an event in Hamburg.
