A 19-year-old man was arrested after he trampled a makeshift memorial for Charlie Kirk outside Turning Point USA’s Phoenix headquarters while wearing a T-shirt that resembled clothing shown in FBI images of the accused killer, police and law enforcement sources said.
Phoenix police identified the person arrested at the scene as Ryder Corral. Video of the incident shows a man in a short-sleeve black T-shirt walking through the memorial, stepping on flowers, vases, flags and other tributes, until a bystander in a blue polo shirt and white hat grabbed him and slammed him to the ground. Law enforcement officers later handcuffed Corral and escorted him away. Authorities said he was charged in connection with the incident.
The arrest drew attention because the shirt Corral appeared to be wearing resembled a long-sleeve black shirt with an American flag overlaid by an eagle and metallic gold and silver accents that the FBI released in security images during its manhunt for the suspected shooter, identified by authorities as 22-year-old Tyler Robinson. The FBI released stills showing the alleged suspect wearing that distinct design as officials searched for the person they believe fatally shot Kirk while he was appearing at a Turning Point USA event.
Officials have not said Corral had any connection to Robinson or to the Utah investigation. The FBI has described Robinson as the suspect in the killing and is continuing its investigation. Robinson remained uncooperative with investigators, according to law enforcement officials, while his romantic partner and roommate is cooperating with the FBI, the bureau said. A relative of Robinson’s partner told Fox News Digital that the partner held animosity toward conservatives and Christians and believed Robinson had become radicalized during their relationship.
Investigators are probing possible connections between Robinson and political groups in Utah, a person familiar with the inquiry told Fox News Digital, as they seek to determine whether any organizations or individuals had prior knowledge of his actions or assisted in planning. Authorities have not publicly identified any such links.
Turning Point USA, the organization Kirk founded in 2012, has drawn national attention as a conservative student group. Kirk’s killing has prompted law enforcement sweeps and a broadening inquiry into the suspect’s background, associations and online activity, according to law enforcement sources.
Phoenix police and federal authorities declined to provide further details about Corral’s arrest, including the precise charges, citing an ongoing investigation and pending legal proceedings. The man identified by authorities in the Utah shooting has also been the subject of public records and social-media scrutiny as investigators work to establish motive and possible accomplices.
The incidents—Kirk’s killing and the destruction of his memorial—have prompted calls from legal analysts and public figures for additional arrests and for a thorough investigation into whether extremist views, online radicalization or organized groups played roles. Law enforcement officials have said the probe remains active and that they will release further information as investigative steps are completed and charges are filed.
Corral’s arrest added to heightened tensions surrounding Kirk’s death and the national response to political violence. Authorities have urged restraint at memorials and public gatherings as investigations continue and as prosecutors evaluate evidence in both the Utah homicide and the Phoenix vandalism case.
