Apple TV's acclaimed comedy "Ted Lasso" is set to introduce new faces and characters in its upcoming Season 4, with Tanya Reynolds and Jude Mack joining the ensemble. Reynolds takes on the role of Coach Alice Chilton, an assistant coach for the AFC Richmond women's team, while Mack steps in as Boots, the team's formidable goalkeeper.
Season 4 sees the return of fan favorites including Rebecca (Hannah Waddingham), Keeley (Juno Temple), Roy Kent (Brett Goldstein), Beard (Brendan Hunt), and Higgins (Jeremy Swift). Jason Sudeikis reprises his role as Ted, who returns to Richmond to coach the new women's team.
Alice Chilton is described as a passionate and qualified coach who harbors skepticism towards Ted. She is a strong-willed, socially awkward individual who struggles to maintain her composure as Ted attempts to win her over with his characteristic charm. Reynolds noted in production notes that Alice is "incredibly passionate about football and was a fantastic player until she suffered several ACL injuries and could no longer play." This experience led her to focus entirely on coaching, making it her primary objective. Reynolds added, "She wants people to succeed, but she doesn’t always balance that with warmth — so she ends up performing a version of herself she thinks others expect… Really, she just wants to be liked and respected."
Tanya Reynolds, the actor portraying Alice, is a 34-year-old English actress with a significant resume in film and television. Her previous credits include roles in "Emma," "Outlander," and "Sex Education." Reynolds also has a background in stage productions.
Jude Mack, who plays Boots, is a British actor, writer, and director. Mack's character, Boots, is the Lady Greyhounds' goalkeeper, known for her confidence and strong performance statistics. Mack described the filming of intense soccer scenes as a "crazy" experience, particularly the challenge of acting unfazed by professional footballers kicking the ball at high speeds.
Mack expressed enthusiasm for playing Boots, noting, "I think it’s such a gift to play a character who’s arrogant and thinks she’s the best." The actor further explained that the season focuses less on Boots' ego and more on her transition from an "isolated individualist position" to embracing community and connection.
Mack's previous work includes roles in "The Capture," "Anansi Boys," and "The Man Who Fell to Earth." They also co-created and starred in the comedy pilot "Amicable."
