A recent study indicates that a significant number of men secretly enjoy watching romantic comedies and dramas, often referred to as 'chick flicks.' The poll, commissioned by Netflix and surveying 2,000 men in relationships, found that at least a quarter admit to enjoying these genres, even if they might not readily share this preference with friends.
Among the most popular films cited as guilty pleasures are "Pretty Woman," the "Twilight" saga, and "Mamma Mia." "Pretty Woman" emerged as a favorite romance film for men, with 10 percent of respondents confessing to being moved to tears by such movies. The "Twilight" series, starring Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, also ranked highly on the list.
Other films that made the list of favored 'guilty pleasure watches' include "Mean Girls," "Miss Congeniality," "Sleepless in Seattle," "When Harry Met Sally," "The Devil Wears Prada," "Moulin Rouge," and "Legally Blonde."
The study also highlighted that 10 percent of men engage in relaxing activities like applying face masks or receiving pedicures with their partners while watching films.
Beyond personal enjoyment, the research suggested that shared movie nights contribute to stronger relationships. British couples, according to the poll, watch an average of four films together per week. Activities like foot rubs, sharing snacks, and holding hands during these viewings were cited as bonding elements by 90 percent of those surveyed.
The poll was conducted by Netflix to coincide with the release of the complete "Twilight" saga on its UK streaming platform on Friday, September 11.
