Stoke Park Pavilions, a historic estate in Northamptonshire, has been put on the market for £5.25 million, according to a report by Richard Eden.

The property, which has been the home of the Chancellor family for the past 70 years, was first purchased by publisher Robin Chancellor in 1953. His nephew, Alexander Chancellor, who edited The Spectator and The Oldie magazines, inherited the estate. Nine years after Alexander's death, the estate is now being sold.

Susanna Chancellor, Alexander's widow, had previously stated that "All Alexander's life was tied into Stoke Park." The house was administered by a trust.

The report also touches on the complex personal lives connected to the family, noting Susanna's affair with artist Lucian Freud and Alexander's daughter with one of Freud's lovers. Following Alexander's death, Susanna made substantial provision for his extra-marital daughter for her education.

The family had hoped to retain the property, but the trustees have now agreed to the sale.
