Stan Prokopenko, a 40-year-old artist, is bringing the spirit of PBS art instructor Bob Ross into the digital age with his YouTube channel, Proko, which offers free sketching tutorials, anatomy lessons, and painting explainers. Since the start of the COVID pandemic, Prokopenko's subscriber count has surged to nearly 4.4 million.
Prokopenko's initiative offers an accessible avenue for art education, particularly for individuals facing budget constraints in arts education or those with disabilities like arthritis. His platform provides instruction from the convenience of home, mirroring Ross's welcoming approach.
Beyond YouTube, Prokopenko has established a successful e-learning platform that hosts both free and paid courses. These paid lessons, priced up to approximately $200 each, are taught by over 160 arts educators. Last year, the company reported approximately $4 million in sales, with revenue generated from 80,000 paying Proko students.
