Singer Katie Melua, 41, announced on Friday that she is expecting her second child. Melua revealed the news by posting a picture of her baby bump while wearing a swimsuit during a recent performance trip to Iceland, where she visited the Blue Lagoon.
Melua is already a mother to her son, Sandro, who was born in December 2022. She previously shared her anxieties about not being able to have children, detailing a period of fertility concerns before Sandro's birth. "I wanted to have a baby from about the age of 26 and I had him when I was 38, so that's a good 12 years of worrying," Melua told HELLO! in 2023. "There was a period of trying and that didn't work out. I thought fertility was maybe an issue."
Fans quickly reacted to the announcement on social media with congratulatory messages. One commenter wrote, "Oh wow, is baby No.2 on the way." Another added, "Baby bump? Congratulations! Hope you are keeping well."
Melua found love again with the father of her child, whose identity she keeps private, after her 2020 divorce from World Superbike racer and musician James Toseland. She described finding love again as "magical" and that her partner is "an incredible person, super down-to-earth and super relaxed and chilled."
Upon Sandro's birth in December 2022, Melua posted a heartwarming message on Instagram, expressing her profound love for her son and acknowledging the exhaustion of new parenthood. "It’s been the greatest month. We’re now the parents to Sandro, the whole thing feels like a dream, never felt a love this strong," she wrote at the time. "But also the exhaustion is real! I’m so grateful to my partner, and have jaw dropping levels of respect for single parents. But the cuddles are something else."
