Country music superstar Shania Twain, 60, has ignited a discussion about aging and fashion choices with her recent stage performances. While opening for Harry Styles at his London concerts, Twain has sported a series of bold outfits, including a sheer black lace dress and a corset paired with hotpants. These choices have led to online commentary, with some critics deeming them "racy" and "age-inappropriate."
One viral post questioning Twain's attire on stage prompted a range of reactions. "Shania is in her second childhood phase of life, Trying to relevant. Shania! You are still relevant. Don't be one of those women!" one user commented, while another stated, "Sometimes... ya gotta realize, we're all getting old and some things just aren't appropriate anymore." Comparisons to Madonna's past fashion choices also emerged, with some suggesting a need for a more "classy" approach.
However, many fans have rushed to Twain's defense, praising her confidence and appearance. "Why what? She looks incredible," wrote one supporter. Another added, "And even at her age (as, we all age), she still doing Hella better than most." Others have pointed out the positive reactions, noting that a video of her performance was captioned, "oh to look like THIS at 60."
Twain herself has previously spoken about her evolving relationship with her body image. She has been candid about her struggles during menopause, recalling a period in 2019 when she "hated" her body and found it difficult to look in the mirror due to changes she felt she had no control over. At that time, she admitted to engaging in "very unhealthy things" in an effort to lose weight, which led to her becoming malnourished and sustaining a thigh injury.
More recently, Twain has adopted a more positive outlook. "Now I'm like, bring on the mirrors, I'm going to look at myself all day long!" she shared. She has expressed that menopause has ultimately been beneficial, teaching her to accept aspects of life beyond her control. Twain is scheduled to perform with Styles for all his London dates.
