Selena Gomez has reignited discussions about her future as a mother, sharing an image on her Instagram Story featuring a baby with the caption, 'One day.' This post comes two years after Gomez disclosed in a 2024 interview with Vanity Fair that medical issues stemming from her battle with lupus prevent her from carrying a pregnancy.

Gomez, who married music producer Benny Blanco in 2025, has openly discussed her desire to become a parent. In a previous Instagram Story post, she shared footage from the season finale of "Wizards Beyond Waverly Place," where her character, Alex Russo, becomes a mother. Gomez commented on the clip, stating, 'Alex Russo is a mommy,' and added, 'hopefully one day that'll be me.' She described an emotional scene with her on-screen daughter, played by Janice LeAnn Brown, noting that the table read for the finale left both actresses in tears.

In September 2024, Gomez first revealed the extent of her medical challenges. "I haven't ever said this," she told Vanity Fair, "but I unfortunately can't carry my own children. I have a lot of medical issues that would put my life and the baby's in jeopardy. That was something I had to grieve for a while."

Despite acknowledging that her path to motherhood will differ from her initial expectations, Gomez remains determined. She expressed gratitude for alternatives like surrogacy and adoption, stating, 'I'm excited for what that journey will look like, but it'll look a little different.' She emphasized that regardless of the method, the child will be hers, adding, 'At the end of the day, I don't care. It'll be mine. It'll be my baby.'

Gomez also shared in 2024 that she had a contingency plan for motherhood, intending to adopt if she had not found a partner by age 35. She noted that after being single for five years, she had come to terms with the possibility of raising a child on her own.

Benny Blanco has also expressed his eagerness to start a family with Gomez. During an appearance on Howard Stern's SiriusXM show last year, Blanco stated that having a child with Gomez is his 'next goal,' citing his experience with godchildren and nephews as an indicator of his readiness to be a father.
